State Fair Ride, Kansas

A glowing top in a dizzying spin, the Remix II dazzles patrons
wandering the Kansas State Fair midway after dark. Though state fairs
sprang up as agricultural and educational venues, carnival rides are
now must-haves. The state fair is the largest annual event in Kansas,
and assistant fair manager Lori Mulch says it offers "a perfect blend
of old-time favorites and new high-tech scream machines."

Baltimore City Street

Taken in 1995 in Baltimore from Amtrack Metroliner Train while moving. I comutted every week on Monday morning from Penn Station for a period of two months. It is a lesson in carrying a camera wherever you go.

Hot Air Balloons, Tanzania

This Month in Photo of the Day: Travel and Culture Photos
While riding in the tracking car, following commercial hot-air balloons filled with paid riders in the Serengeti (Tanzania), we found that we didn't appear to be the only ones keeping an eye on the sky. This female lion traveled slowly in front of us for quite some distance, but finally turned and glared back at us, then within a few seconds, totally disappeared into the nearby brush.

A roadside shoe repairman under the eaves of an old, abandoned government building in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Street cobblers are very common on the streets of Hohhot, where extreme weather conditions cause shoes to wear out much faster than in other parts of China.

Carnival Portrait, Haiti

The image was taken during the Carnival in the town of Jacmel, Haiti. Carnival in Jacmel is one of the most interesting cultural manifestations in Haiti and in Hispaniola. There are traditional characters that dress up in customs depicting African animals, such as lions and mystical beasts, dragon. In addition, symbolize slaves by painting their bodies in burnt oil and bright paints and dragging chains. Undoubtedly, Carnival in Haiti is one of the Caribbean's least known cultural treasures.

Living on the water, 14-year-old Moeun Sambor cooks a fish dinner for her family in the floating village of Chong Kneas on Tonle Sap. During the low-water season, as many as 5,000 people in Chong Kneas live on the lake on tethered houseboats, without access to electricity or sanitation. When waters rise, villagers move to stay close to the shoreline.

During a wrestling competition held in one of the streets of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, a contestant literally throws his opponent out of the game. Previously, wrestling was a popular sport. However, in recent times, due to lack of sponsors, the sport is facing hard times and its popularity is on the decline. These street competitions are held to popularize the sport and these give the enthusiasts a chance to enjoy the sport almost at their backyard.
